Round 6 Review of the National Basketball League: "The People's Championship".
Townsville 103 – Sydney 101.
The Suns had this wrapped up then tripped over the line after a late meltdown, Homicide was massive with 35 on just 16 takes.
Cairns 101 – New Zealand 92.
The jack-happy Breakers had six free-throw attempts, they launched 38 from long range and showed they're still shaky away from home.
Wollongong 98 – Gold Coast 96.
The Hawks had six minutes to kill with the game sewn up, then Shane Heal and Greg Vanderjagt almost killed them in that time.
Perth 104 – Adelaide 93.
Schenscher was a beast with 33 and 20, but the 36ers couldn't recover from a 36-point first half.
Melbourne 110 – Townsville 97.
The Tigers held off the Crocs behind 61 from Ere and the Ansteysaurus, while the Crocs gave them a hand by shooting 44% (11-of-25) from the free-throw line.
South 94 – Cairns 65.
The Taipans put up 16, 14 and 12 in the first three-quarters on a forgettable night to usher the Dragons into first place.
New Zealand 116 – Gold Coast 113.
Kirk Penney and James Harvey duelled in this shootout, but the Blaze blinked. Amazingly, the Blaze were two shots away from being 2-0 on the weekend but suffered a pair of crushing losses to spiral deeper into a 0-9 abyss.
Sydney 99 – Wollongong 86.
A 26-13 collapse in the third quarter unravelled the Hawks as the Spirit overcame 20 turnovers to keep these two teams locked in seventh place.
Champoid of the Week:
Russell Hinder was large with 20 points on 7-of-10 with five threes but the highlight of the round was his post-game interview with Andrew Gaze on FOX.
Rotman of the Week:
Daniel Joyce, you're not going to 'silence' anybody with a shot if you're going to launch three DISGRACEFUL airballs afterwards (and what's with the free-throws, are you serious?). We won't even mention the 2-of-8 display you backed up with. Here's a recommendation for your ipod.
