News that the Sydney Spirit have been blocked in their attempt at signing local product Luke Martin to a $10,000 contract for the upcoming season is bewildering at best.

Spirit coach Rob Beveridge is right with his claim that the Salary/Points cap has failed to create any parity across the competition.
It defies logic how the NBL can come up with a ruling like this.
A poster on ozhoopsboards.com likened the situation to Police booking someone doing 61km/h in a 60 zone, but turning a blind eye to the guy doing 200km/h because they can't catch him.
The defending champion Melbourne Tigers earlier this week added Ebi Ere, the 07/08 MVP Runner Up who supposedly had already agreed to join South Dragons.
Ere's signature comes as a bonus after the Tigers already snared Sam Mackinnon 06/07 MVP and stud import Rod Grizzard to a team that already boasted current league MVP Chris Anstey, Boomer starter David Barlow and a solid bench that would probably get a start ahead the entire Sydney Spirit lineup.
How can the ruling body deny Sydney Spirit - arguably the least talented / most budget roster in the NBL - signing local Sydney product Luke Martin to what would probably be a spot on the bench, not an MVP candidate?
